Apple in my eyes
February 16th, 2007 § 1
On the 29th of January – the eve of Vista’s launch, I bought an Intel Machine. This baby runs on MAC OSX. Well, to be politically correct, its an apple machine that runs on Intel processor(heys! doesn’t that make it an Intel machine?)
Contrary to common belief. OSX does hang. It hanged on me twice during the first two days of usage. And of course, application hangs too. Having said that, it has been a relieving experience departing from Windows. I like the zoom-in and out command where you can select applications (don’t know what’s it called), and Spotlight- to search and find applications quickly. I also relish using unix (Darwin) shell.
I have been getting acquainted with this lover for more than two weeks. Here’s what I think.
1. Software availability
Of course, being a newbie to the Apple World(and to some extend-unix), it’s not easy to find some applications available for MAC. Of course one can argue that you can port it using Fink or DarwinPort, and one can even argue more that there are applications that run on OSX that doesn’t run on Windows. But to be fair, Windows enjoys the bigger share of tailor-made, off-the-shelf softwares. And porting is not always the easiet thing to do.
One thing to note, I love the fact that PHP and Pear and even utilities like Netcat are readily available with OSX. It came to me as super nice when I wanted to develop PHP apps and the console showed me something lovely when I typed $man php
